Marcia A. Pappas was born in Albany, NY. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Cultural Studies, and has held several leadership positions at the National Organization for Women (NOW). She is currently President of NOW-New York State, where she acts as media spokesperson and the organization's chief lobbyist.

Traveling extensively to colleges across NYS, Pappas fights persistently for the rights of women and girls. She addresses many crucial issues affecting women's lives, including reproductive freedom and the Constitutionally-ordained right of free speech. She is frequently quoted in major newspapers and law journals; and her works have been published in several prestigious news outlets. Pappas was recently described in the media as the "most visible activist in NYS."

Pappas is well known for her strong commitment to women's economic security, and has also made it her life's work to end violence against women. Recently Pappas worked to expose the misogyny and sexism that is rampant in our society's leaders. In 2009 and 2010 she led the successful statewide charge to expel then New York State Senator Hiram Monserrate from the NYS Senate, following his conviction for domestic violence. With this case and several others, Pappas has, on behalf of NOW, sent the message that no lawmaker is above the law. Due to her diligent efforts and demands, this historic move by the NYS Senate marked the first expulsion of a NYS legislator in nearly one hundred years.

During Marcia's years as a women's rights activist, she has often said that "Together Everyone Achieves More." That's T.E.A.M. work!
