| The
creator and founder of Miss Vera's
Finishing School for Boys Who Want
to
be Girls, NYC, the world's first cross-dressing
academy, and author of the book by
the same name published by Doubleday.
According
to Miss Vera, "For every woman who
burned her bra, there is a man ready
to wear one." The success of her
academy gives proof to her theory of "Venus
envy". Miss Vera, an artist and
the author of hundreds of articles
on human sexuality, has lectured and
performed
at galleries and universities internationally
as well all over the United States.
A former star in erotic films, in 1985
she testified for freedom of expression
before a Senate Judiciary Committee
chaired
by Senator Arlen Spector. Her testimony
was included in the Meese Commission
report. In 1989, she helped to reorganize
Prostitutes of New York (P.O.N.Y.),
the sex workers' rights organization
which
advocates the decriminalization of
prostitution. Miss Vera's video docu-diary
Portrait
of a Sexual Evolutionary, which includes
footage of her Washington, D.C. testimony,
sparked a censorship controversy at
the University of Michigan Law School
in
1992; with representation by the ACLU
the artists prevailed. Miss Vera grew
up in New Jersey, has traveled around
the world, and lives in New York City.
She has a fabulous wardrobe.
